What should I do if my house floods?

The first thing you need to do when your house floods is to find the source of the water. Sometimes it is safe for you to stop the flow of the water, such as a damaged toilet supply line. In this case there would be a small valve close to the wall that you can turn. Use caution as it is dangerous to walk in standing water, it could be contaminated, or at the very least a slip and fall hazard.

After you have located the source of the water and attempted to stop the flow (only if safe, and simple to do so) call Water Emergency Team. We will respond within the hour to assess the situation and develop and plan of action. We don’t recommend attempting to suck up water with a shopvac, or drying using consumer fans. To remove all of the water it will take deep extraction, high velocity airflow, and dehumidification.
